About Me
Hello and thank you for visiting my website! My name is Kaila Cohen, a theatre artist originally from Sarasota, FL. Currently, I am finishing my BA degree as a theatre major (dramaturgy emphasis) and communications minor at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL. I am also a proud graduate of the esteemed VPA theatre program at Booker High School in Sarasota, FL. My interests in the theatrical world lie in dramaturgy, play/musical direction, new play development, script analysis, theatre and disability, and working with children. When I am not working on something theatre-related, you can usually find me watching a Marvel or Star Wars movie or spending time with my family (including my pet bunny). I’ve been involved in theatre for as long as I can remember and I am excited to share my expertise and love for the arts with you!
Dramaturgy
As a dramaturg, I have extensive experience in theatre research, analyzing everything from setting and historical context to pertinent production-specific information. I have also worked in the areas of new play development, script analysis, and leading audience engagement. Some of my favorite areas of research include theatre and disability, feminist methodologies, creating interactive lobby displays and Shakespeare analysis. Directing
My directing experience includes a wide-range such as historical pieces, contemporary comedy and drama, and musical theatre, in addition to plays currently in their first developments. As a director, my primary goals are first and foremost creating a space where my team feels safe, free, and excited to explore. I enjoy seeing a production go through every stage from just an idea to all the way through closing night. Currently, I am working on producing a full-length production (which I previously directed as a staged reading) of “Nowheresville” written by playwright Lexi Shroll.
